Vasquez, who also served as
press secretary for Colorado Governor Roy
Romer’s 1990 re-election campaign, recently
worked as marketing director for the Denver
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
She also taught journalism
and mass communications at the Community
College of Denver.
Vasquez won the 1992 Positive Images Award
presented by the Colorado Hispanic Media
Association, and CHMA’s 1993 Positive Images
Award for Editorial Excellence. In 1996 she won
second place for team feature writing in the
Society of Professional Journalists statewide
contest, circulation division of 100,000+.
In addition, her journalism career
accomplishments were featured in “History of
Colorado’s Women for Young People” by author
Vivian Sheldon-Epstein in 1998.
International experience includes undergraduate
studies at the University of Seville in Spain
and positions with Spain’s official wire service
La Agencia EFE and
The New York Times bureau in Madrid.
Vasquez earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism
from the University of Colorado-Boulder and a
master’s degree in applied communication from
the University of Denver.
